I like to think about things.
I’m almost never not thinking about something, even when I’m sleeping. I started this blog so I could have a place to write about anything and everything that occupied my brain-space because, as an introvert, I much prefer writing to talking.
While I think about pretty much everything, the things I think about most are:
- Books, because books are EVERYTHING;
- Politics, because I care about making the world a better place;
- Life, because I’m not on Facebook so my friends and family need some way to stay updated on what’s going on with me; and
- all sorts of other random Stuff, because… because.
I’m an “alt-academic”, which means I have a PhD1 but do not work as a professor. My specialization is in education and social justice, and I have broad expertise in feminist and critical race theories. Among other things, this means that the lines between the personal and the political are blurred for me.
The blog is called Just Dominique because everything I post is on behalf of no one but myself.2
If you want to get in touch, feel free to e-mail me at: justdominique.ca [at] gmail [dot] com. You can also find me on Twitter: @justdominque_
1 Hence, the liberal use of parentheses and footnotes in my posts. (And my use of the word “hence”. 😀 )
2 The title is also a reference to a “game” my mother used to play with me when I was little. She would call me by some silly kid name or other, and I would tell her that my name was just Dominique. The subsequent conversation went something like this:
Me: My name is just Dominique.
Mom: Okay, just Dominique!
Me: No! Just Dominique!
Mom: That’s what I said! Just Dominique!
Me: Nooo! Just Dominique! *stamps foot*
Mom: Right. Just Dominique.
Me: Just. Dominique!
And on and on, until she got tired of teasing me. It’s interesting how so much of parents’ pleasure comes from annoying the heck out of their children…
